“In this week’s address, President Obama says that on October 1, a big part of the Affordable Care Act will go live and give uninsured Americans the chance to buy the same quality, affordable health care as everyone else. It is also the day when some Republicans in Congress might shut down the government just because they don’t like the law. The President urged Congress to both pass a budget by Monday and raise the nation’s debt ceiling so that we can keep growing the economy.”
From The White House
President Obama has the upper and a united Democratic Party in Congress behind him in this debate. Going up against a divided House Republican Conference where there are even Republican Representatives who believe risking a government shutdown over the Affordable Care Act, is a bad strategy and want to focus on the debt and deficit instead, while keeping the Federal Government open. And Senate Republicans who want this debate over as well so they can move on and not risk hurting their chances of winning back the Senate next year. So the President should just keep his upper hand and keeping pushing it until the. Republican House caves and comes back down to earth.
