“Paul Krugman, Bill Kristol, Jennifer Granholm, and Matthew Dowd on the shutdown showdown.”
From ABC News
As I’ve already said about this:
“I wouldn’t say that the Tea Party House government shutdown is a political suicide mission, because this plan (if you want to call it that) doesn’t even seem to have a mission, or even a pilot. It’s more like drunk people at a pool with a group of them going up on the high dive, blindfolded, and one of them falls off and never makes it to the water. And that’s assuming that House Republicans are politically suicidal to go through with this. Or, are they just doing this for their right-wing-populist base and trying to tell them that they’re doing whatever they can to try to end the Affordable Care Act. (Also known as ObamaCare)”

Just to talk about Bill Kristol’s point here, which actually makes my point: the only reason why House Republicans are talking about delaying or defunding, or repealing the Affordable Care Act (also known as ObamaCare) now, is because Democrats still have The White House and the Senate.
The Republican Party lost the 2012 elections for all intense and purposes. If Americans wanted the ACA repealed, they would’ve given the Republican Party the power to do it. The fact that the Republican Party only controls the lower chamber of Congress, (the House) means the only way they can get exactly what they want, is essentially politically blackmail the Democrats: “Give us exactly what we want, or we’re going to shutdown the government.”
